This ten-week course is geared toward students with beyond foundational knowledge of the Chinese language or those who have Chinese language skills by their heritage. Students will build their oral Chinese skills to prepare for work with Chinese-speaking patients. In addition to elements of language, the course incorporates discussion of Chinese culture with an emphasis on the cultural aspects of patient care in China.
Prerequisite: E-Mandarin 102 or equivalent proficiency (one year’s study of Chinese).
Upon course completion, students will have acquired the following knowledge and skills:
Ask questions from Patient Health History and Registration Form;
Schedule or reschedule doctor appointments;
Examine patients’ eyes and give prescriptions;
Hold casual conversations with patients;
Give detailed instructions about a specific location;
Give routine vision tests and color tests.
