Spring 2021 E-Mandarin 202 (Intermediate II)
This course is a continuation of E-Mandarin 201. The course is designed to help students further improve their skills in performing eye examinations and discussing eye-related issues with Chinese-speaking patients. We aim to prepare students linguistically and cross-culturally for future work or study in Chinese-speaking clinical settings.

Prerequisite: E-Mandarin 201 or equivalent proficiency (two years’ study of Chinese).

Upon course completion, students will have acquired the following knowledge and skills:

Inquire about patients’ medical history and health conditions;
Examine patients ‘visions and give prescriptions;
Give patients’ advice on their diet habits;
Talk about the difference between eye pressure and blood pressure;
Talk about examination procedures such as dilation;
Explain treatment methods such as LASIK;
Explain the advantage and disadvantages of contact lenses.
